Losar Prayer Gathering (No Celebrations)

LOSAR ANNOUNCEMENT

Tibetan Community of New York & New Jersey will be hosting a Tibetan Losar (New Year) prayer gathering on February 14th, 2010, however there will NOT be any celebrations (songs & dances, etc). On February 4th, 2010, the Office of Tibet circulated an important notice from Kashag (Tibetan Cabinet Ministers) requesting all the Tibetan associations and its members to NOT "celebrate" the upcoming Losar, while still continuing to honor tradition with the necessary ceremonial prayers and rituals.

The main reason for the "No Celebration" is because the situation in Tibet has not improved much since the mass peaceful uprising by the Tibetans throughout Tibet in 2008. Today, there's still a widespread suppression by the Chinese government in Tibet and Tibetans are continued to be denied of basic human rights and freedom.

We appreciate your support and understanding.

May peace prevail on earth.
